After the cinema’s reopening – which was as joyful as it was intense – the volunteers at La Clef are taking a short break in August!
It’s fair to say we’ve achieved a a lot during the last six months: nearly 200 screenings with guest appearances, and over 300 films. These events have attracted more than 10,000 people, and we now have 8,000 members: a huge thank you to everyone for your support and for attending the screenings!
A million thanks, too, to everyone who gives their time and ideas to bring this shared space to life: the hundreds of volunteers who welcome the public, run the bar and operate the projectors every evening; the associations and collectives that offer films and lead the discussions; and the two staff members of the association who help us sustain this unique model, which is still a work in progress.
Thanks to the thousands of donors who enabled the Cinéma Revival endowment fund to purchase this building, and thanks to public memberships, La Clef is secure for the long term. This is a great chance, at a time when the far right and its allies are stepping up their attacks on activist spaces and cultural independence, and attempting to stifle imagination. We therefore want to put this space and our efforts at the service of struggles and solidarity – by sharing films, anger and resources, and by fostering encounters.
We’re preparing a joyful and combative start to the new season for you – see you very soon!
The collective running La Clef
