The workshops

STUDIO 34’s workshops offer the opportunity to share experiences and techniques of film creation. They are organised by theme – production, writing, image, sound, editing, post-production – and allow everyone to familiarise themselves with the different film practices.

With no age or level prerequisites, our aim is to create a framework for exchange and proximity between film workers, apprentice filmmakers or simply those who are curious, encouraging professional encounters and creative abundance.

Since the creation of STUDIO 34 in 2021, and despite the difficulties linked to the COVID crisis, about ten workshops have been held, allowing about fifty participants to learn about the film industry.

Some of the workshops that took place in the period 2021-2022:

APRIL 2022 – COLLECTIVE PRODUCTION WORKSHOP WITH THE GUIT BROTHERS

Directing is a major exercise in the question of film making; how do you stage your project with limited resources and a small team? The aim here is to demystify the process of collective filmmaking. Supervised by the directors Lenny and Harpo Guit, the workshop took place over three days. During this workshop, 6 participants were able to experiment with the staging of a project written and produced collectively.

March 2022 – WRITING WORKSHOP FOR A DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

Documentary writing is at the heart of the question of the feasibility of films, especially when looking for subsidies or when accompanying the author by a production structure. But it is also a way for the director to specify and build a desire for a film which, at the beginning, is often only a fragile intuition.

How to “write reality”, which is by essence unpredictable? How to use the tools of narration and dramaturgy to build a film project and convince producers and financiers?

Throughout the year 2021 at La Clef, two writing workshops held respectively by Anton Balekdjian and Pierre-Jean Delvolvé, and Antoine du Jeu

These workshops, led by the supervisors, aim to lead the young filmmakers in writing their first short film to a final version of their script. Through collective discussions and feedback on the participants’ respective projects, meetings with experienced filmmakers and screenings of short films, the young filmmakers are also informed about the ways of producing, in collective or self-production.

With one or two weekends per month for three to four months, the long workshop time also allows them to exchange with the different sensitivities of the participants and to advance in the writing of their project.

In 2021 and 2022 at La Clef, occasional writing workshops organized by the Pagaille collective

These workshops, organized and thought from A to Z by the association Pagaille, consist in accompanying during a day or a weekend the projects of the participants by collective discussions, then by times of work and individual exchanges. The speakers, different members of the association Pagaille, brought their experience according to their profession (director, cinematographer, set designer, editor…).

January 2020 – INITIATION TO IMAGE AND LIGHT TECHNIQUES

The program will include: demystification of the relationship to technique; discussion and reflection on the use of video for artistic creation; deconstruction and questioning of the tools of the cinematographic image; practical manipulation of technical material. This workshop will take as its starting point the problems of the participants.

We invite you to come with your questions and, if you wish, with the tools you use during your own shooting (cell phone, camcorder etc…).
