Cinema’s opening for good

We (the current users of La Clef) would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has accompanied us on this long journey!

After six years of struggle and effort — two and a half years of illegal occupation, two more years of fundraising and a year and a half of renovation – it is with great joy that we finally announce the definitive opening of the cinema: screenings will resume on Wednesday 14 January!
The screening schedule will be announced at the start of the new term.

For good, because we have done everything possible to ensure that this project remains an independent, community-run cinema forever. It can’t be sold, and will be managed and programmed collectively by its users, who are committed to show little-seen films and offering affordable ticket prices.

If so many people fought to save La Clef, it is to maintain the self-governance experiment that began illegally, but also to preserve all the memories hosted in this cinema, historically dedicated to marginalised narratives. While our film-programming aims to be eclectic and freedom-driven, we are keen to cultivate continuity with the activist history of the place. And to claim, in images and actions, our solidarity with those who are fighting today for greater social justice and against all forms of oppression.
